CHARACTER BACKGROUND AND CONTEXT
Introduced to cinema by Russell Mulcahy in 1986, Connor Macleod is the central protagonist of the cult filmHighlander. Born in the 16th century in the Scottish Highlands as a member of the Macleod clan, he discovers his immortality after surviving a fatal wound inflicted by his sworn enemy, the Kurgan. Trained in the martial arts and the rules of his condition by Juan Sanchez-Villalobos Ramirez, he learns that the Immortals have been waging a secret war throughout the ages. As they can only be killed by decapitation, they clash at the "Gathering" in New York in the 20th century to claim the "Prize", under the allegory of the franchise’s famous maxim:“There can be only one”.
