Character origin and universe

Hunter x Hunter is a manga by Yoshihiro Togashi that has been adapted into an anime, following characters aspiring to become Hunters – elite adventurers capable of exploring uncharted territories, searching for treasure, tracking down criminals or studying rare creatures.

Gon Freecss is the series’ protagonist. Originally from Whale Island, he decides to sit the Hunter exam in order to find his father, Ging Freecss, himself a legendary Hunter. His optimism, exceptional instincts, loyalty and boundless energy make him a character who is both endearing and unpredictable.

The Hunter Exam Ver. depicts Gon at the start of his adventure, as he leaves his home island with his rucksack and fishing rod. This look symbolises his first steps into the world of Hunters, his formative encounters and the start of his journey alongside Killua, Kurapika and Leorio.
