Origin and character background (Lore)

Meruem is the King of the Chimera Ants, a species capable of assimilating the characteristics of beings devoured by its queen. Born with exceptional power, intelligence and authority, he initially regards humans as inferior creatures and seeks to establish a new order dominated by the strongest.

His encounter with Komugi, a young, blind girl who is extremely talented at the strategy game Gungi, gradually transforms his worldview. Unable to defeat her despite his prodigious abilities, Meruem discovers through her the value of humility, attachment and the inherent worth of every individual. His clash with Isaac Netero and the events that follow mark one of the major turning points in the Chimera Ant arc.
