Origin and background of the character
Kurapika is one of the main protagonists of the legendary manga Hunter x Hunter, created by Yoshihiro Togashi in 1998. The last survivor of the Kurta clan, he is driven by an absolute desire for justice and revenge following the massacre of his entire people by the Phantom Brigade (the Genie Ryodan), lured by the inestimable value of their ‘Scarlet Eyes’, which glow an intense red when stirred by emotion. Having become a particularly intelligent, calm and analytical blacklisted Hunter, Kurapika develops exceptional mastery of Nen by materialising magical chains from his fingers, each endowed with a specific and formidable power. His obsessive quest to recover his brothers’ stolen eyes and punish the culprits makes him a tragic figure, whose moral integrity is constantly at odds with the violence of the underworld.
