Zim is the protagonist of the American animated television series *Invader Zim*, created by Jhonen Vasquez for Nickelodeon. Hailing from the Irken Empire, an imperialist alien civilisation obsessed with space conquest, Zim is a zealous but incompetent soldier whose past actions nearly destroyed his own home planet. To get rid of him, his leaders (the Highest Superiors) send him on a secret mission to a remote planet on the edge of the galaxy: Earth. Accompanied by GIR, a malfunctioning robot serving as an intelligence unit, Zim infiltrates human society in the guise of a schoolboy, whilst his classmate, Dib Membrane, a young paranormal enthusiast, is the only one who can sense his alien nature and attempts to thwart his plans for world domination.
