Origin and background of the dinosaur (Lore)

The Tyrannosaurus rex is the dinosaur most closely associated with the Jurassic Park saga. In the first film, several specimens are recreated by InGen scientists using ancient DNA supplemented with sequences from modern-day animals. They are then housed in the park built by John Hammond on Isla Nublar.

The T-Rex is initially presented as one of the park’s main attractions. After the electric fences were deactivated following sabotage by Dennis Nedry, it escaped from its enclosure and attacked the vehicles carrying the visitors. This night-time sequence in the rain became one of the film’s most famous scenes.

Despite its role as a predator, the Tyrannosaurus also plays a decisive role in the final showdown. It intervenes in the visitor centre and attacks the velociraptors threatening Alan Grant, Ellie Sattler and the children. The ‘When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth’ banner then falls before him, establishing the T-Rex as the park’s true symbol.

In subsequent films, various specimens reappear, but the original female from Isla Nublar retains a special place in the public’s heart. She is frequently nicknamed ‘Rexy’ and becomes a recurring figure in the Jurassic World franchise.
