Yoda was wrong. There are only tests. Even more so when you buy the greatest sagas in the history of cinema, for the modest sum of four billion dollars. On 30 October 2012, Disney acquired Lucasfilm in its entirety. But Star Wars was obviously the most important of all the lines in what is likely to be a massive contract.

As early as January 2013, the ambition of Bob Iger, the former chairman of The Walt Disney Company, became palpable. The company was undoubtedly embarking on one of the biggest projects in its history, with new feature films that would remain shrouded in mystery despite their scale.

Whether they come from the new trilogy, made up of The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi and Skywalker Ascends, or from the famous collection of spin-offs, now made up of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Solo: A Star Wars Story, these films have a complex relationship with the first three adventures written by George Lucas, which seem to form the yardstick for Disney's own interpretation of the saga.

So how is Disney reinterpreting the original trilogy in its new films, series and other spin-off products? In five films and hundreds of works of all kinds, the company has often limited itself to simple imitation. But it has finally found the courage to extend the original work, with varying degrees of audacity, even if it means reinventing it, sometimes radically. Together, we are going to explore the new stories, the hybridisations and even the contradictions that Disney has been able to create by rubbing shoulders with the work of George Lucas.
