Mr Burns is depicted standing in an instantly recognisable pose, with his back slightly hunched and his hands clasped in front of him. His unsettling smile, receding hairline and extremely slender figure capture the character’s key features. Character background and lore

Charles Montgomery Burns is the fabulously wealthy owner of the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant and Homer Simpson’s employer. Calculating, miserly and particularly authoritarian, he uses his fortune and influence to defend his interests, often to the detriment of his employees and the town’s residents.

Despite his advanced age and frail appearance, Mr Burns remains one of Springfield’s most menacing characters. He is almost always accompanied by Waylon Smithers, his entirely devoted assistant, who manages his affairs and regularly attempts to limit the consequences of his most extravagant schemes.

The green light from this lamp is particularly reminiscent of the episode in which Homer spots a strange, glowing figure in the woods. The residents initially think they are dealing with an alien, before discovering that it is Mr Burns, whose appearance has been altered by a series of medical treatments and by a phosphorescent substance from the power station.

In this scene, his gaunt silhouette, pale attire, soft voice and greenish halo give him a supernatural appearance far removed from his usual behaviour. This lamp transforms this memorable sequence into a decorative object thanks to its green LED mode and glow-in-the-dark finish.

The white mode, meanwhile, offers a more traditional portrayal of the character, whilst the green light emphasises his unsettling and humorous side.
