Origin and character’s universe
The Witch-King of Angmar and his winged creature (Fellbeast) originate from the fantasy literary universe of The Lord of the Rings, written by J.R.R. Tolkien, and adapted for the screen in the film trilogy directed by Peter Jackson. In this mythology, the Witch-King is the leader of the Nazgûl (the nine Ringwraiths), former human kings enslaved by the Rings of Power who became the most loyal servants of the Dark Lord, Sauron. Originally horsemen riding black horses, the Nazgûl adopted these massive, featherless flying creatures during the war, described as relics of an ancient age. This staging references the strategic deployments of Mordor’s forces during major battles, notably the siege of Minas Tirith on the Pelennor Fields.
