Origin and background of the licence (Lore)

The Lord of the Rings, by J.R.R. Tolkien, is set in Middle-earth, an imaginary world populated by Hobbits, Elves, Dwarves, Men and many ancient creatures. The story follows the Fellowship of the Ring, tasked with destroying the One Ring before its creator, Sauron, can regain his full power.

The Elvish motifs on this pencil case are inspired by the languages and writing systems invented by Tolkien. The Tengwar, recognisable by their curved and elegant shapes, appear notably on the One Ring and on the western gates of Moria. In this universe, they were created by the Elf Fëanor before being used by various peoples of Middle-earth.

This refined aesthetic also serves as a reminder of the Elves’ central role in the story. An ancient people connected to nature, knowledge and craftsmanship, they lend their aid to the Fellowship and take part in the struggle against Sauron, whilst witnessing their era gradually drawing to a close.
