About the books
After the great success of Tolkien's live-action "The Hobbit", the author decided to explore this universe further and began writing what would later become The Lord of the Rings. In 1937, at the request of his publisher, Tolkien began writing the book. It took him twelve years to complete the sequel, which he interspersed with references and allusions to the Slimarillion world, another project he had been working on since 1917.
For the record, Tolkien's plan was to publish The Lord of the Rings in a single book. Unfortunately, the high cost of paper in the post-war period forced him to divide his work into three volumes, each divided into two volumes: "The Fellowship of the Ring" / "The Fellowship of the Ring", "The Two Towers" and "The Return of the King".
