Origin and world of the character (Lore)
The AT-RT(All Terrain Reconnaissance Transport) walker is a light, fast, single-seat reconnaissance vehicle on two legs, originally used extensively by Republic clone troopers during the Clone Wars and later by the Galactic Empire. In the remote and savage Outer Rim where The Mandalorian series is set, a great deal of obsolete Imperial and Republican military equipment has been left to rot or salvaged by mercenaries, scrap dealers and settlers. Seeing Din Djarin take control of such a machine perfectly illustrates his ability to exploit any resource in the galaxy to carry out his missions and protect the Child (Grogu).
