Character background and lore
Marin Kitagawa is the main heroine of My Dress-Up Darling. A popular sixth-former and amateur model, she stands out for her very sociable nature, her enthusiasm and her unabashed passion for anime, manga, video games and, above all, cosplay. The anime’s official website describes her as a radiant, carefree young girl who is always at the centre of her group of friends.
Despite her immense desire to bring her favourite characters to life, Marin isn’t actually very skilled at making costumes. Her meeting with Wakana Gojo, however, completely changes the situation.
Gojo is a reserved sixth-former who dreams of becoming a craftsman specialising in making hina dolls. The sewing skills he has developed to make their clothes quickly catch Marin’s attention, and she asks him to help her make her first proper cosplay costume.
This collaboration becomes the starting point for their relationship. As they work on various projects, Gojo learns to better understand the worlds and characters Marin wishes to embody, whilst Marin gradually helps him to break out of his shell and gain greater confidence in his own talents.
Cosplay is therefore at the heart of *My Dress-Up Darling*, but the series also explores passion, creativity and how two people with very different personalities can grow closer through a shared interest. The official website, in fact, presents their relationship as a story whose world is constantly expanding through new costumes and new encounters.
Marin is particularly appreciated for her non-judgemental attitude towards other people’s passions. Whilst Gojo has long been ashamed of his interest in hina dolls, she, on the contrary, believes it is natural to genuinely love the things we are passionate about.
This Yumemirize figurine specifically highlights this more everyday side of the character: rather than depicting Marin in a spectacular cosplay outfit, it favours a more peaceful and natural atmosphere, reflecting the warm personality behind the cosplayer.
