Character background and lore
Kakashi Hatake is a jônin from the Hidden Village of Konoha and the leader of Team 7, comprising Naruto Uzumaki, Sasuke Uchiha and Sakura Haruno. A particularly talented ninja, he is known by the nickname ‘Kakashi of the Sharingan’ due to the eye he received from his former comrade, Obito Uchiha.
The ‘1000 Birds’ motif refers to the Chidori, a Lightning-type technique created by Kakashi. It involves concentrating a large amount of electrical chakra in the hand before striking the opponent at very high speed. The crackling sound produced by this concentration of energy evokes the song of many birds, which explains the attack’s name.
Kakashi subsequently perfected this technique under the name Raikiri, or Lightning Cutter. The Chidori is also passed on to Sasuke Uchiha, whose visual abilities and affinity for Lightning allow him to use it effectively. This attack thus becomes one of the most iconic techniques of both Kakashi and his pupil.
