The story takes place in the town of Halloween, a fantastic city populated by monsters, ghosts and folk creatures whose job it is to prepare for the annual Halloween party. Jack Skellington, an elegant skeleton nicknamed the 'Pumpkin King', is the master of ceremonies of this community. Bored by the repetitive nature of his duties, he stumbles upon Christmas Town. Seduced by the unique festive atmosphere, he decides to make the celebration his own and plan his own version, which leads to a series of unforeseen disruptions in the organisation of the festivities.
