Origin and background of the character
Edward Newgate, universally known as the legendary ‘Whitebeard’, is one of the most iconic, respected and powerful figures in the monumental One Piece series, created by Eiichiro Oda in 1997. Nicknamed “the Strongest Man in the World” and regarded as the only pirate capable of competing on equal terms with the Pirate King Gol D. Roger, he reigned as the undisputed master of the New World as a member of the Four Emperors (Yonko). Having eaten the Quake-Quake Fruit (Gura Gura no Mi), a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit with apocalyptic powers, he could generate formidable shockwaves capable of splitting the air, triggering earthquakes and unleashing devastating tsunamis. Unlike other conquerors hungry for riches, Whitebeard’s dearest dream had always been to build a vast family, treating every member of his crew as his own sons. His tragic and heroic fate during the War at Marineford remains a major historical event that upended the global balance of piracy. Banpresto’s famous “Grandista” collection applies all its expertise here to sculpt, with surgical precision, the striated muscles of his torso, his famous battle scars, and the expression of unshakeable dignity in his gaze.
