Character background and lore

Monkey D. Luffy is the captain of the Straw Hat Pirates. After eating a Devil Fruit, his body takes on the properties of rubber, allowing him to stretch and develop increasingly powerful fighting techniques. His goal is to travel the Grand Line, discover the legendary One Piece and become the Pirate King.

Gear Fourth is a transformation during which Luffy inflates his muscles and coats part of his body in Armament Haki. This combination significantly increases his strength, stamina and mobility, but consumes a great deal of energy.

The Tankman form first appeared during his battle against Charlotte Cracker on Whole Cake Island. After eating a considerable amount of biscuits, Luffy develops an even bulkier build than usual. His abdomen then becomes capable of absorbing powerful impacts before sending his opponents flying with exceptional force. This transformation relies more on defence and counter-attack than the other variants of Gear Fourth.
