Narrative context and universe (Lore)

In theOne Piece universe, the protagonist Monkey D. Luffy develops theGear 4technique during his two years of intensive training on Rusukaina Island. This ability relies on injecting air directly into his muscular structure combined with the maximum application of Armament Haki to his skin, simultaneously increasing his elasticity and raw power.

TheBoundman(or Bouncing Man) variation is the first form ofGear 4revealed in the series, during the final battle against the Grand Pirate Don Quixote Doflamingo in the kingdom of Dressrosa. This form is characterised by a massive increase in the volume of Luffy’s upper body and by a constant elastic tension that forces the character to bounce continuously off the ground, allowing him to propel his attacks and move through the air.
