Character background and universe (Lore)

Usopp is one of the members of the Straw Hat crew in One Piece, a manga created by Eiichiro Oda. The group’s sharpshooter, he joins Luffy after the events at Syrup Village and dreams of becoming a valiant warrior of the seas.

Unlike many of his companions, who possess extraordinary powers, Usopp relies mainly on his ingenuity, his marksmanship and his talent for improvising weapons and strategies tailored to his opponents. His timid nature often contrasts with his ability to show immense courage when his friends are in danger.

During the Thriller Bark arc, the crew boards a gigantic ghost ship captained by Gecko Moria. Usopp plays a particularly decisive role in the confrontation with Perona, whose powers involving ‘negative spirits’ are particularly formidable for most of the other crew members.

His natural pessimism then, unexpectedly, becomes a real advantage. This confrontation is one of the character’s most memorable moments and perfectly illustrates Usopp’s strength: turning his apparent weaknesses into assets to overcome otherwise formidable opponents.
