Origin and background of the character
Monkey D. Luffy is the central protagonist and leader of the Straw Hat Crew at the heart of the monumental One Piece series, created by Eiichiro Oda. Whilst infiltrating the Land of Wano, a territory oppressed under the rule of Emperor Kaido and Shogun Orochi, the young pirate adopts the alias “Luffy Taro” to blend in with the locals. On this occasion, he swaps his usual clothes for a traditional red and black patchwork kimono, whilst wielding the cursed sword Nidai Kitetsu.
