Character background and universe (Lore)

Vigilante, alias Adrian Chase, is a vigilante from the DC Universe whose approach to fighting crime is particularly radical.

In the comics, Adrian Chase was originally a prosecutor who was confronted daily with the limitations of the judicial system. Following the murder of his wife and children by a criminal organisation, he decided to gradually abandon legal methods and adopted the identity of Vigilante in order to fight criminals himself.

DC describes him as an experienced fighter, an excellent marksman and weapons specialist, who is also particularly effective in hand-to-hand combat. Unlike many superheroes, Vigilante does not possess any real superpowers: his effectiveness relies mainly on his training, his arsenal and his almost total lack of restraint when confronting criminals.

The version popularised in the Peacemaker series retains the name Adrian Chase but gives him a much more eccentric personality. In it, Vigilante appears as an enthusiastic vigilante, extremely violent and with a very particular understanding of social relationships.

In particular, he develops a genuine fascination with Christopher Smith, alias Peacemaker, whom he regards as one of his best friends. Their relationship forms a large part of the series’ humour: Peacemaker regularly tries to temper Vigilante’s murderous enthusiasm, whilst the latter constantly seeks to join him on his missions.

Beneath his clumsy and sometimes absurd behaviour, however, lies a formidable fighter. Vigilante is equally adept with both firearms and bladed weapons and hardly ever hesitates when a situation turns dangerous.

This combination of combat effectiveness, a lack of restraint and completely unpredictable behaviour makes him one of the most memorable characters in the Peacemaker universe.
