Origin and background of the character
The character Lucy van Pelt comes from the famous American comic strip Peanuts, created by the author and cartoonist Charles M. Schulz in 1950. The story is set in an ordinary suburban neighbourhood and follows the everyday, sometimes philosophical, musings of a group of children and the famous beagle, Snoopy. Lucy is a cynical, grumpy and self-assured little girl who spends much of her time bullying her brother Linus or imposing her strong opinions on Charlie Brown. One of the character’s most iconic features remains her 5-cent ‘psychiatric help’ wooden booth (‘The Doctor is in’), where she dispenses particularly blunt and often zany financial or relationship advice to her playmates. This figurine draws direct inspiration from this timeless design to celebrate the gang’s sharp humour and amusing psychology. Its clean, minimalist style emphasises the character’s determined attitude, ready to add a touch of irony and nostalgia to collectors’ shelves.
