Origin and lore of the creature

The Kitsune is a supernatural fox of particular significance in Japanese folklore. According to the tales, it becomes more powerful, more intelligent and wiser as it grows older.

Kitsune are often associated with the ability to change shape, particularly to take on a human form. According to tradition, they can be benevolent, protective and loyal, but also mischievous or deceitful.

They are also closely linked to Inari, a Japanese deity associated in particular with rice, prosperity and fertility. In this context, foxes are regarded as Inari’s messengers and are frequently depicted in the shrines dedicated to him.

The number of tails a kitsune has is traditionally linked to its age and power, with tales sometimes referring to foxes with as many as nine tails. This POP! Myths No. 32 thus brings one of the most famous creatures of Japanese folklore to life in Funko’s signature style.
