Character background and lore

Rémy is a young rat with an exceptionally keen sense of smell and taste. Unlike the rest of his colony, who are content simply to scavenge for food, he dreams of cooking and admires the famous chef Auguste Gusteau, whose motto is that ‘anyone can cook’.

After being separated from his family, Rémy arrives in Paris and discovers the restaurant formerly run by Gusteau. There he meets Alfredo Linguini, a clumsy young employee with whom he forms an unlikely partnership. Hidden beneath his chef’s hat, Rémy guides Linguini’s movements by tugging at his hair, helping him to prepare dishes worthy of a great chef.

Through this secret collaboration, Rémy attempts to prove that talent and creativity can come from the most unexpected places. The chef’s hat worn by this soft toy is a direct reminder of his dream to find his place in a kitchen, despite the prejudices associated with being a rat.
