In the Shangri-La Frontier universe, Sunraku is the avatar of Rakuro Hizutome, a sixth-former who specialises in completing ‘scholarships’ – poorly developed, buggy and excessively difficult retro video games. Armed with this technical experience, which has honed his reflexes and perseverance, he decides to tackle the most popular virtual reality game of the moment, Shangri-La Frontier. To get round initial budget constraints, he begins his playthrough by selling his basic armour, choosing instead to play bare-chested whilst wearing a bird-shaped mask to conceal his identity. His playstyle relies exclusively on perfect dodging and critical melee attacks.
