In the Solo Leveling universe, Go Gunhee is an S-ranked hunter of colossal power, holding the position of President of the Korean Hunters Association. Nicknamed "the Sky above the Sky", he is also one of the few humans recognised as a vessel for the fragments of brilliant light (the Rulers). Because of his advanced age and the fragility of his physical body in the face of the immensity of his magical energy, he can no longer take an active part in the raids on the portals. He therefore devotes his authority to regulating the activities of the guilds and preserving the political balance. He quickly developed a deep respect and mutual trust for Sung Jinwoo, recognising his exceptional value.
