Origin and background of the character
The character ofSquidward Tentacles originates from the famous American animated seriesSpongeBob SquarePants, created by marine biologist and animator Stephen Hillenburg in 1999 for Nickelodeon. The story is set in the underwater city of Bikini Bottom and follows the zany adventures of a square sponge and his neighbours. Carlo is a turquoise squid, a jaded cashier at the Krusty Krab restaurant, who deeply yearns for a life as a sophisticated artist far from the chaos caused by SpongeBob and Patrick. This figurine is directly inspired by his character design for the franchise’s animated feature film. His pirate costume ironically highlights his legendary lack of enthusiasm for setting sail and joining the crew’s wild adventures.
