Origin and world of the character
The character of Eugene H. Krabs (more commonly known as Mr Krabs) comes from the famous American animated series SpongeBobSquarePants, created by marine biologist and animator Stephen Hillenburg in 1999 for Nickelodeon. Set in the underwater city of Bikini Bottom, the story follows the zany adventures of a square sponge and his neighbours. Mr Krabs is a red crab, a former sailor in the navy who has become the obsessively wealthy owner of the city's most popular fast-food restaurant: the Krusty Krab. This figurine is directly inspired by his thematic design for the animated feature film in the franchise. His pirate disguise ironically underlines the character's fundamental traits: his unconditional love of gold coins, treasure maps and the compulsive accumulation of wealth.
