TOY STORY - Slinky - Bookend

Character background and lore

Zigzag, known as Slinky Dog or simply Slinky in the original version, is one of Andy’s classic toys in Toy Story. He takes the form of a dachshund whose two halves of the body are connected by a long metal spring, allowing him to stretch to an impressive length. Disney describes him as a pragmatic character who is always willing to go to great lengths to help his friends.

Zigzag is particularly close to Woody, of whom he is one of the most loyal companions. Pixar presents him as Woody’s trusted friend and partner when they play draughts. He is part of Andy’s original group of toys alongside Buzz Lightyear, Rex, Bayonne and Mr Potato Head.

His spring-loaded, extendable body has been a central feature of his design since the first Toy Story.
