Character background and lore

Scar is Mufasa’s brother and Simba’s uncle in The Lion King. Before the birth of the young lion cub, he was next in line to the throne of the Pride Lands. Simba’s arrival upends his ambitions and drives Scar to devise a plan to eliminate his brother and nephew so that he himself can become king. Disney describes him as a character whose lack of physical strength is offset by great cunning.

To achieve his ends, Scar allies himself with the hyenas Shenzi, Banzai and Ed, whom he uses as his henchmen. He causes the wildebeest stampede that leads to Mufasa’s death, then manipulates Simba into believing he is responsible for the tragedy. Once his nephew has been exiled, Scar seizes the throne, but his reign gradually leads the Pride Lands into decline.

The line ‘I’m surrounded by idiots’ is indeed a line spoken by Scar in the original film and refers to his exasperation with the hyenas in his entourage.
