Origin and backstory of the characters (Lore)

Jack Skellington is the famous Pumpkin King of Halloween Town and the main protagonist of The Nightmare Before Christmas, a film conceived by Tim Burton and directed by Henry Selick. Tired of repeating the same Halloween celebrations year after year, Jack accidentally discovers Christmas Town and becomes fascinated by the world of Christmas.

Convinced he can organise the festivities himself, he decides to make Christmas his own with the help of the inhabitants of Halloween Town. Despite his good intentions, his macabre take on this tradition quickly leads to a series of disasters.

Zero is Jack’s faithful ghostly dog. Recognisable by his spectral form and his glowing pumpkin-shaped nose, he regularly accompanies his master and plays a particularly crucial role when guiding his sleigh through the fog.

The Jack and Zero duo has become one of the film’s most iconic pairings. Their relationship reflects both Zero’s loyalty to Jack and the unique aesthetic of The Nightmare Before Christmas, which blends a gothic atmosphere, black humour and the magic of Christmas.
