Transformers – Command Matrix – Interactive Replica, Studio Series – 40 cm
Celebrate the 40th anniversary of the animated film *Transformers: The Movie* with this interactive replica of the Matrix of Command, designed by Hasbro for the Studio Series range. Serving as a collector’s item, role-play accessory and display piece, it recreates one of the most important artefacts in the Autobots’ universe, complete with light and sound effects inspired by the 1986 feature film.
The replica features the Matrix’s distinctive metallic structure, with a luminous blue central core surrounded by a silver, copper and gold frame. Its extendable mechanism allows it to be displayed closed or, by pulling on its side handles, to recreate its iconic opening sequence.
When the frame is extended, the intensity of the pulsating lights at the heart of the Matrix gradually increases. The mechanism also triggers a snippet of ‘The Touch’ by Stan Bush, the song inextricably linked to Hot Rod’s transformation into Rodimus Prime in *Transformers: The Movie*.
The Matrix measures approximately 40 cm in width when closed and reaches approximately 49.5 cm when open. Its size allows it to be held in the hands to recreate scenes from the film or placed on the stand provided. The stand features Cybertronian inscriptions and holds the artefact securely in both its open and closed configurations.
The light and sound effects require two AA batteries, which are not included. This collector’s item is primarily aimed at fans of Generation 1, the 1986 film and life-size replicas from the Transformers universe.

Origin and lore of the Matrix of Command
The Matrix of Command, also known as the Matrix of Leadership, is one of the most sacred artefacts of Cybertronian civilisation. It is traditionally entrusted to the leader of the Autobots and represents both his authority, the memory of his predecessors and the hope of the people of Cybertron.
In the Generation 1 continuity, the Matrix is kept insideOptimus Prime’s torso. When he is mortally wounded during the Battle of Autobot City, he passes it on to Ultra Magnus with the instruction that a new leader will emerge when the time is right.
However, the Matrix ends up in the hands of Hot Rod, a brave but impulsive young Autobot. During the final confrontation with Galvatron inside Unicron, Hot Rod manages to open the artefact. Its energy then transforms him into Rodimus Prime, the new leader of the Autobots.
Opening the Matrix releases enough power to destroy Unicron from within. This scene is accompanied by Stan Bush’s song ‘The Touch’, an excerpt of which is directly integrated into the sound effects of this replica.
Beyond its power, the Matrix also contains the wisdom and experience of former leaders. Its bearer can thus connect with previous generations of Primes and access their knowledge in times of crisis.
The Matrix therefore symbolises not so much a weapon as a responsibility. It responds fully only to a bearer capable of demonstrating courage, compassion and devotion to others – qualities that define the role of leader of the Autobots.
