Merida understands that as Princess of Clan DunBroch, she has certain obligations, but that doesn't mean she has to like them - especially when one of those obligations means losing her freedom by becoming the bride of a man she's never met. Although she opposes this tradition, her mother, Queen Elinor, insists that the princess must submit to it if she is to fulfil her role as future queen. Determined to make her own way, Mérida follows some will-o'-the-wisps to a witch's cottage, where she is given a cupcake that will bring about "a great transformation" in her mother. But instead of giving Elinor the witch's cake, Mérida eats it herself. She wakes up in the past, with a teenage Elinor holding a knife to her throat and accusing her of spying. But her arrival prevents Elinor and Fergus from meeting. Will Merida be able to bring the rival clans together, help her parents fall in love and change her own destiny?
