Nightmare Before Christmas
This film, imagined by Tim Burton, is in fact an in-depth development of a poem he wrote in the 1980s. Only three characters remain between the film and the story of the poem: Jack Skellington, his dog Zero and Father Christmas. The character of Jack had already made a few brief appearances in some of Tim Burton's films, such as in Beetlejuice or James and the Giant Peach.

The story
In his Halloween town, Jack, a scarecrow, considers himself a monarch. Like all kings, he has a lot of ambition, just for himself. He doesn't really care about his town. Nor does he care about the feelings that Sally, a rag doll, has for him. What matters to him is himself and his dreams.
Jack Skellington is in charge of his town's festivities. He throws an incredible party, he thinks it was the scariest Halloween the people of Halloween have ever seen. Everyone around him admires him, how can he not get a big head with so much excitement around him? Jack takes the compliments with a hypocritical humility that makes everyone happy.
However, the scarecrow is bored among the monsters in his town. The day after the Day of the Dead, he wanders into the forest with his dog Zero and ends up in front of seven trees with a door to enter, each representing a different holiday. Out of curiosity, Jack explores the world of Christmas.
To his surprise, he discovers a world full of colours, smiles and presents, where children have sweet dreams every night. Not believing his eyes, he decides to bring back evidence of his travels for the people of Halloween. Then he isolates himself in a tower to try to unravel the mystery surrounding the magic of Christmas.
Jack always needs new challenges to stimulate him, so he devises a plan despite his lack of understanding of Christmas magic. Indeed, this will not stop him from doing his great Christmas reform. The Pumpkin King convinces himself that he can replace Father Christmas and do a better job of delivering presents than he did.
So he decides to send some friends, Lock, Shock and Barrel, to kidnap Santa. His friend Sally thinks this is a terrible idea, but Jack goes his own way and plays the terrorist on Christmas Eve. With the help of mad scientist Dr. Finklestein, they make skeleton reindeer so he can ride in his sleigh.
His Christmas "presents" are more like Halloween presents and therefore terrify the children. After he passes, screams are heard in every house. It is an unprecedented crisis. The residents finally isolate themselves in their houses, locking them up to avoid the arrival of the usurper they hate.
Alarmed by this fake Santa, the authorities decide to send in the army to shoot him down. As the explosions echo in the sky, Jack is completely misled into thinking that the people are cheering and thanking him.
The explosions eventually hit the sled and the impostor plummets out of the sky at full speed and lands heavily in the snow. For the first time, the pumpkin king questions himself. He realises that he has ruined the Christmas celebrations, so he sets Santa free and asks for his forgiveness. The disgruntled Santa rushes to save what's left of the Christmas party.
Jack, despite his misadventure, is pleased to have given his best to this Christmas ambition. In fact, the experience is already giving him plenty of new ideas.
