The history of Nintendo
It all began over 130 years ago in Kyoto, Japan. At the time, Nintendo was a toy manufacturer. It was not until the 1970s that the company contributed to the development of the video game industry by starting to manufacture media. The history of the famous game console began with the manufacture of arcade terminals, followed by home consoles in 1983 and portable consoles in 1989. In the 1990s, Nintendo was forced to compete with Sega, Sony, PlayStation and even Xbox. A competition that pushed the giant to offer something new! Today, it goes without saying that the Game Boy, the Wii, the Nintendo DS, the Wii U, the Nintendo 3DS and the Nintendo Switch have become the unavoidable references in terms of consoles. Nintendo consoles
As you can see, Nintendo is a pioneer in the electronic entertainment industry. In the early 1980s, the Game and Watch made their appearance. But it was above all thanks to the Game Boy that Nintendo revolutionised the way we play! It was a great first, since this portable console made it possible to play different games thanks to a system of cartridges inserted in the back of the device. Tetris quickly became a must-have game! The Game Boy was released in several improved versions before making way for its "little sister" the Nintendo DS. Released in the early 2000s, this portable console was equipped with several rare features such as two backlit screens, one of which was touch-sensitive. Ever more avant-garde, the Lite and DSi variants were launched a few years later. The flagship game was New Super Mario Bros. The Nintendo DS is the company's most successful handheld ever, being the most popular handheld of all time.
In 2006, the Wii was added to the Nintendo family. This console was a hit with everyone, as everyone was hooked on motion detection. Within a year of its release, families were able to work out while having fun with the Wii Fit and Wii Balance Board. In early 2011, the Nintendo 3DS arrived. This console allows for stereoscopic 3D images to be displayed without the need for special glasses. 2012 is a landmark year for Nintendo with the launch of the Wii U and the Nintendo 3DS XL. Unfortunately, these two consoles were not as successful as expected. In 2016, Big N revolutionised the console world again with the Nintendo Switch. It is undoubtedly its hybrid side allowing to play in portable version or console version which will make its planetary success! With over 50 million units sold, the Switch is now one of the top 5 best-selling Nintendo consoles. Today, rumours suggest that the Japanese giant could soon unveil a "Pro" version of the Switch...
