What is it about?
The story takes place in 2077, in a futuristic world, 30 years after the end of a war between robots and humans. The war was declared after the Omniums (vast industrial buildings manufacturing the Omniaks) were reactivated. The Omniums then launched a great military mobilisation against the rest of humanity. Overwatch was set up as an operation to suppress the Omniacs in the midst of the rebellion. It was successful, but the organisation was disbanded in 2072 due to suspicions of corruption. The organisation disappeared completely after the explosion of its headquarters. Jack Morrison, the commander-in-chief was also declared dead. Features of the game
The game is characterised by the need for cooperation between all the classes that make up the story. Each class has its own specificities and characteristics. Older games such as Team Fortress 2 come to mind when playing Overwatch.
There are a total of 32 different heroes to play as in the game. Each of them has a specific class: Support, Damage or Tank. The victory strategy in Overwatch is based on a perfect balance between the different characters of the same team
- Support: These are the heroes who will provide healing, shielding, damage or speed to their allies. However, these heroes are not really equipped to defend themselves against heavily armed enemies they may encounter.
- Damage: They are the agile warriors who are supposed to damage the enemy. They have special tools and abilities to deal with them. These include speed and a low hit box.
- Tanks: They are the warriors who will face the enemies to clear the space and take the damage for their team. This hero is, as its name indicates, the one who will be able to unblock a situation by his massive side.
Factions and game modes
In Overwatch, there are several factions in which the different characters and classes can be found. Some characters may have pledged allegiance to several groups, while others work independently. Among the best known factions are Overwatch, The Claw, Blackwatch, Omnica Corporation and Sector Zero.
Several game modes are possible in Overwatch. Here are some of them:
- Control: Two teams battle for control of a specific point at a time. Two rounds won equals one victory.
- Escort: Attacking players aim to escort a convoy to an objective. The defending players aim to stop them.
- Attack/Escort: The goal is for the attackers to first take possession of a convoy and then escort it to a defined objective. The defenders must prevent them from doing so.
- Attack: The attacking players aim to capture several specific points. Defending players must prevent them from doing so.
- Advance: Only available in Overwatch 2. Both teams fight to gain control of a robot, which they gradually advance towards the other team's base. The team wins the game according to how far their robot has advanced.

Other types of games are also added on a more occasional basis, such as Mystery Death Match, Jubilant Chaos, Mystery Hero or No Limit.

Overwatch 2
In 2022, the servers of Overwatch 1 are closed and Overwatch 2 takes over. This one aims to offer a redesign of the first game. A story and single-player mode is planned to deepen the story and the universe of the game as well as a PVE part and regular content. 32 heroes are kept, even if they receive a graphic redesign and new abilities. Maps are also changed as well as 3 game modes. Maps become playable at a time that changes during the day. All player skins and stats are transferable from Overwatch to Overwatch 2.
New heroes are also available as well as new maps. A player versus environment mode is also added. In addition, the story mode in Overwatch 2 is the result of numerous requests from players.
