Pokémon, catch them all!

More than two decades ago, Pokémon, the little creatures with multiple forms and magical powers, became very popular. In 1996, Tajiri's original franchise was released as a video game by Nintendo. The concept of Pokémon has since expanded to include anime, manga and collectible cards, but the concept remains the same: capture Pokémon and train them to battle each other.

What is a Pokémon?

Everyone today knows the word "Pokémon". But who are these interesting creatures that have been invading our TV screens, PCs and consoles for over 20 years? The word Pokémon is a fusion of the English words "Pocket" and "Monster", which literally means "pocket monster". They have two characteristics: Pokémon are creatures with extraordinary powers, such as the ability to breathe fire or generate electricity, and they can be captured by humans in hollow red and white balls, the Poké Balls, which can absorb the creatures. They also make it easy to transport pokémon, as Poké Balls are the size of an apple. There are currently 898 types of Pokémon and you can also check the Pokédex for a list of all the Pokémon that exist!

Do you love pokemons? Then why not come and visit our pokemon shop? You're bound to find something you like! We also have a part of our shop dedicated to figurines for the collectors among you, but also all sorts of other goodies such as geek caps in our geek shop. If you like the world of manga and anime, we can also offer you items from the One Piece universe and many other worlds!

The origins of Pokémon

In 1990, Tajiri proposed a concept idea called Capsule Monsters to Nintendo. According to the book Pikachu's Global Adventure, he came up with the idea while recalling his childhood passion for collecting insects.

The name Capsule Monsters went through several variants, there was CapuMon and later Pocket Monsters, which will remain as the name of the series in Japan.

In the early development drafts, a number of Pokémon began to appear, the first imagined Pokémon was Rhinoferos.

Also appearing are prototypes of creatures that could not be caught easily just by fighting them, from simple dragons to monkeys. None of these can be captured in battle, as the trainer must have a certain charisma to attract the monsters into his ranks. The charisma level is then represented by a gauge.

Battles for trainers too

Trainers can participate in battles themselves, which is why many trainers in Pokémon Red and Blue have whips, which are remnants of this mechanic.

In order to restore a Pokémon's health, its trainer must stay in a hotel that provides emergency equipment in the room, similar to a Pokémon centre.

Pokémon History

Sasha Ketchum is the hero of the Pokémon anime. He was raised by his mother Delia in the small village of Bourg-Palette. His father was an excellent Pokémon trainer, but now Sacha has no idea where he is or whether he is dead or alive. But that doesn't bother Sacha, who never thinks about him.

At the age of 10, Sasha, like all children his age, asked for his first Pokémon from the researcher closest to him, Professor Chen, an icon in the world of Pokémon research. However, he was too late and had to take the remaining pokémon: a Pikachu, a difficult Pokémon to train. The latter, not listening to him at first, refused to enter his Poké Ball, but as time went on, a strong friendship soon developed with the young trainer, and as Sacha's flagship Pokémon, they became inseparable. Sacha begins a long journey to become a Pokémon master!
