CHARACTER BACKGROUND AND CONTEXT
Introduced in 2009 by Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould in the second season of the drama seriesBreaking Bad, Saul Goodman (whose real name is James Morgan "Jimmy" McGill) is a criminal defence lawyer based in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Recognisable by his colourful suits, flamboyant TV adverts and his catchphrase“Better Call Saul!”, he specialises in defending criminals and money laundering. The character subsequently became the subject of his own eponymous prequel series from 2015, exploring his complex transition from a small-time con artist to a cynical and indispensable defence lawyer for the drug cartel, becoming one of the most iconic figures in modern television fiction.
