Rukia Kuchiki is a Shinigami (an angel of death) assigned to the 13th Division of the Gotei 13, tasked with purifying lost spirits known as Hollows and guiding souls to the Soul Society. The adopted sister of the noble Captain Byakuya Kuchiki, her life takes a dramatic turn when she is seriously injured on Earth and forced to transfer all her spiritual powers to a human, Ichigo Kurosaki. This forbidden act sets in motion the major events of the story. Although small in stature, Rukia more than makes up for it with a will of steel and a perfect mastery of the magical arts (Kido). Her sword, Sode no Shirayuki, is considered the most beautiful ice-type Zanpakutō in the entire Soul Society, capable of freezing her targets to absolute zero through various deadly ritual dances.
