Character background and lore

Shinji Hirako is the former captain of the Fifth Division of the Gotei 13. Observant and suspicious by nature, he quickly realises that his lieutenant, Sōsuke Aizen, is concealing his true intentions. However, this vigilance is not enough to prevent Aizen from using him, along with several other Shinigami, as a test subject for a Hollowmorphosis experiment.

Forced to flee the Soul Society, Shinji and the other victims become the Visored – Shinigami capable of manifesting a Hollow mask and temporarily harnessing the powers associated with it. Shinji naturally takes the lead of the group and later welcomes Ichigo Kurosaki to help him master his own inner Hollow.

His Zanpakutō is called Sakanade. When he releases his Shikai, a distinctive odour disrupts his opponent’s perceptions and reverses directions: left and right, up and down, front and back, as well as the direction from which attacks come. This ability turns the fight into a veritable sensory trap, which Shinji exploits with his knack for provocation.

Following Aizen’s defeat, Shinji rejoins the Gotei 13 and resumes his post as Captain of the Fifth Division. He then takes part in the defence of Soul Society during the Thousand-Year Blood War, where his experience with Hollows and his illusion techniques make him a fighter who is as dangerous as he is unpredictable.

The serene pose of this figurine perfectly reflects this personality: Shinji rarely seems to take a situation seriously, but his smile and relaxed demeanour conceal an experienced captain capable of completely disorienting his opponents.
