Discover SpongeBob in a particularly quirky take with this Funko POP! Animation No. 2556 figurine, inspired by the famous Nickelodeon series SpongeBob SquarePants. This ‘Melting’ edition reimagines the character as if he were melting. The figurine stands approximately 8.9 cm tall.

The figurine retains SpongeBob’s key, instantly recognisable features, including his yellow silhouette, white shirt, red tie, brown trousers and large black shoes. However, this version stands out for its deliberately sagging and distorted shapes, giving the character a liquid, exaggerated appearance that contrasts with his usual design.

Made from vinyl, with a PVC composition specified by BEMS, this figurine is part of the ‘Melting’ series, which also includes Patrick, Carlo and Mr Krabs. It is presented in the range’s traditional display box. Origin and character background (Lore)

SpongeBob SquarePants is a yellow sea sponge who lives in a pineapple at the bottom of Bikini Bottom. The main character in the animated series created by Stephen Hillenburg, he first appeared in the very first episode, ‘Help Wanted’, which aired in 1999. Always enthusiastic and optimistic, SpongeBob tackles both his work and his many underwater adventures with almost boundless energy.

He works as a cook at the Krusty Krab, where, under Mr Krabs’s supervision, he prepares the famous crab cakes, amongst other things. Outside of work, Bob spends much of his time with his best friend Patrick Star, goes jellyfish fishing and regularly attempts, with varying degrees of success, to obtain his driving licence from Mrs Puff. He also shares his adventures with Sandy Squirrel, his snail Gary and his neighbour and colleague Carlo Tentacles.

His enthusiasm, naivety and ability to turn the most ordinary situations into absurd adventures form a large part of the series’ comic identity. The ‘Melting’ version offered by Funko does not correspond to any specific transformation of the character within the official storyline: it is a humorous graphic interpretation specially created for this series of POP! figurines, featuring several residents of Bikini Bottom.
