SPONGEBOB SQUARE PANTS - POP Animation N° 2558 - Squidward (Melting)

Meet Carlo Tentacule, SpongeBob’s grumpy neighbour and colleague, with this Funko POP! Animation No. 2558 figurine inspired by the SpongeBob SquarePants series. This ‘Melting’ edition reimagines the character in a deliberately distorted style, giving the impression that he is melting. The figurine stands approximately 10.2 cm tall.

The design retains Squidward’s key features: his blue-green skin, his large, elongated head, his prominent nose and his distinctive brown shirt. However, this variant deliberately emphasises the character’s features with a sagging silhouette and a stretched expression, creating an unusual and humorous visual effect.

Character origin and backstory (Lore)

Carlo Tentacule, known as Squidward Tentacles in the original version, is SpongeBob’s next-door neighbour and one of his colleagues at the Krusty Krab, where he works as a till operator. Despite his English name suggesting a squid, Nickelodeon officially states that Carlo is in fact an octopus. He first appears in the series’ opening episode, ‘Help Wanted’.

Carlo is known for his sarcastic, pessimistic and easily irritable temperament, particularly when he has to put up with SpongeBob’s constant enthusiasm or Patrick’s clumsiness. He considers himself more cultured and refined than those around him and often dreams of a quieter life, far from the daily hustle and bustle of Bikini Bottom.

His main passions are the clarinet and painting, particularly self-portraits. Despite his grumpy nature, he regularly finds himself swept up in Bob and Patrick’s adventures and has been the source of several iconic moments in the series, notably his role as conductor in *Band Geeks* or his temporary transformation into Handsome Squidward.

The ‘Melting’ version offered by Funko does not correspond to any specific transformation from the series: it is a humorous graphic interpretation created for this POP! collection, featuring several SpongeBob characters.
