Character background and lore

Aira Shiratori is one of the main allies of Momo Ayase and Ken Takakura, nicknamed Okarun, in Dandadan.

At the start of the story, Aira is a very popular and extremely self-assured sixth-former. Her appearance and the attention she receives even lead her to see herself as a kind of chosen one, destined to play a major role in the fight against supernatural phenomena.

Her fate changes when she comes into contact with Acrobatic Silky, a particularly dangerous spirit. Following the events linked to this yōkai, Aira inherits some of its spiritual power and becomes capable of assuming a transformed form directly inspired by it.

In this state, her appearance changes radically. Her hair grows considerably longer and becomes one of the most spectacular features of her silhouette, whilst her physical abilities reach a level far surpassing that of an ordinary human.

Acrobatic Silky’s powers grant Aira, in particular, exceptional agility, great speed and the ability to perform a series of extremely rapid acrobatic moves. Her fighting style thus relies as much on mobility as on powerful physical attacks.

This transformation also marks an important milestone in the character’s development. Initially a rival to Momo and often driven by her ego, Aira gradually becomes a true ally of the group and plays an active role in battles against yōkai, aliens and other paranormal phenomena that threaten her comrades.

Her self-confidence, however, remains one of her most distinctive traits, regularly giving rise to comical situations even when she finds herself in the thick of particularly dangerous battles.
