Inspired by the work and expanded universe of Dandadan, Turbo Granny is a poltergeist of human origin who has spent much of her spectral life pursuing a single goal: to haunt the remote corners of Japan and find her place amongst the souls of deceased young girls, whose grief she seeks to soothe. An urban entity of formidable malice, she takes up residence in an abandoned railway tunnel, learning to conceal her profound loneliness behind verbal aggression and extraordinary running speed that defies the laws of physics. Her path takes an irreversible turn when she steals Ken Takakura’s (Okarun) intimate belongings, before being sealed away and stripped of her power by Momo Ayase and her medium grandmother. Forced to coexist temporarily in the harmless form of a stuffed cat doll (Maneki-neko), she strives to negotiate her freedom. This marks the beginning of a forced and demanding alliance, in which the cantankerous spirit uses her absolute knowledge of the paranormal to guide the group, becoming the indispensable advisor needed to survive in the face of alien invasions and hostile yōkai.
