Superman (born Kal-El on the planet Krypton and raised as Clark Kent) is a fictional superhero created in 1938 by writer Jerry Siegel and artist Joe Shuster for DC Comics. Sent to Earth by his parents just before the destruction of his home world, he developed superhuman abilities under the influence of Earth’s yellow sun, including Herculean strength, invulnerability, the ability to fly, as well as thermal vision and super-hearing. Raised in Smallville before settling in Metropolis as a journalist at the Daily Planet, he uses his powers to protect humanity whilst wearing his blue costume bearing the El family crest. The ‘New Classics’ range of figurines pays tribute to the aesthetic and iconic elements of Metropolis’s protector through a stylised interpretation of his appearance.
