DEATH NOTE - ECRIRE UN NOUVEAU MONDE

The Death Note manga has undeniably left its mark on an entire generation, both in Japan and in the West. Drawn by Takeshi Obata and scripted by Tsugumi Ohba, this complex work is a shônen without being one. Rather than following the codes of the genre to the letter, it prefers to twist them to tell a dark and mature story. While it is first and foremost an effective thriller, the story also explores themes specific to Japanese society, such as disillusioned youth, suicide and the influence of cults.

In this essay, doctor of literature Clément Pelissier explores the psychological duel between Kira and L from every angle. In particular, he examines the characters' ideology, the religious symbols that feed into the story, the social and philosophical themes, and of course the detective element. The creative processes behind the manga and the animated series are also presented.
