Origin and background of the character
Released in 1940, Fantasia is Disney’s third major animated classic and stands as a landmark in the history of cinema. A complete break from traditional formats, the film brings together eight animated segments set to classical music pieces conducted by the famous conductor Leopold Stokowski. The character of Peter Pegasus appears in the sequence dedicated to Beethoven’s Pastoral Symphony, which depicts an idyllic mythological world populated by centaurs, fauns and a family of flying pegasi. This commemorative figurine, released to mark the film’s 80th anniversary, pays a vibrant tribute to the poetry of this scene, creating a magical ensemble alongside the figurines of Hyacinth the hippopotamus and Mickey as the Sorcerer’s Apprentice.
