Origin and backstory of the character (Lore)
Conceived by filmmaker Tim Burton in 1993,The Nightmare Before Christmas is an essential masterpiece of stop-motion animation. Amidst the eccentric yet deeply kind monsters of Halloween Town, Oogie Boogie represents the very embodiment of wickedness and vice. Holed up in his underground lair—a cross between a macabre casino and an underground gambling den—this sinister dice-roller takes perverse pleasure in torturing his prisoners, starting with Father Christmas himself (Santa Claws).Oogie Boogie has no solid body: he is a huge, roughly sewn sack of burlap, entirely filled with thousands of wriggling worms, insects and scorpions. This unique ‘Patchwork’ artistic version reimagines his silhouette by featuring colourful, pieced-together fabric patterns.
