Origin and world of the character (Lore)
The world of the sitcom Friends, created in 1994, memorably opens with Rachel Green bursting into Central Perk, soaking wet and wearing that imposing wedding dress. Having just left her fiancé Barry at the altar to escape a life as a rich but passionless housewife, she decides to become independent by moving in with her childhood friend Monica Geller. The design was also inspired by a later season 4 episode, 'The One with All the Wedding Dresses', where Rachel, Monica and Phoebe decide to rent and don wedding dresses to spend the evening together on the sofa in the flat to cheer each other up.
