Origin and backstory of the character (Lore)

Garfield is an orange tabby cat created by the American cartoonist Jim Davis. The main character in the comic strip of the same name, he lives with his owner Jon Arbuckle and the dog Odie. He is best known for his excessive love of food, particularly lasagne, as well as his fondness for sleep and his avowed dislike of Mondays.

Sarcastic, lazy and particularly self-assured, Garfield observes the world around him with a humour that is often biting. He spends much of his time sleeping, eating or teasing Jon and Odie, whilst occasionally revealing a genuine affection for them. His peaceful pose on the moon perfectly illustrates this constant quest for comfort and tranquillity.
